LOCAL MEDIA FOR ROMA RIGHTS

Seven editorial boards from all over Serbia, three of which are from South Serbia, together with representatives of the Roma community, will try, in the following 11 months, to improve Roma Information about obtaining legal aid and to draw attention to their problems.

Medvedja – Around 400 miners of the lead, gold, zinc and silver mine "Lece" near Medvedja went on a general strike yesterday and demanded from the Government of Serbia a solution to the financial problems.

ROMA BALL IN SOUTH SERBIA

Vranje – On the occasion of “Vasilica”, the largest Roma holiday, young Roma from “Gornja Čaršija“ (the uptown area of Vranje) organized, last weekend, a Roma ball in Vranje.   The ball was visited by around 350 members of the Roma ethnic minority from Vranje, Macedonia, Leskovac, Nis and Surdulica, who were entertained by the "Young Crystals" band from Macedonia.

MINISTER BOGOSAVLJEVIC -BOSKOVIC: THE "FERERO" PROJECT IS RUNNING AS PLANNED

Agriculture Minister Snezana Boskovic-Bogosavljević said that implementation of the previously reached agreement with the Italian company "Ferrero" on the production of hazelnuts in Serbia had begun and that everything regarding the project was going off as planned.

“PLAY 017” BASKEBALL PLAYERS PARTICIPATE IN TOURNAMENT HELD IN GERMANY

Bujanovac – Members of the Youth Basketball Club “Play 017” from Bujanovac will participate in the International “2015 Winter Tournament”, which takes place in Bremerhaven, Germany, from January 31 to  February 2, 2015.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE SECOND GENERATION OF THE “BACKBONE” SCHOOL OF NEW VALUES

The Centre for Development of Civil Resources (CDCR), in cooperation with the Civic Initiatives – the Bujanovac local office and the Youth Office from Priboj, announced a call for applications for the second generation of the „Backbone“ school of new values, which is opened until today.

THEY TRIED TO ESCAPE WITH 400 KILOGRAMS OF CUT TOBACCO

Vranje – The police seized 396 kilograms of cut tobacco near Vranje. The seized tobacco was without the supporting documentation and in a vehicle with Belgrade registration plates. After having tried to escape from the police, the vehicle was stopped and searched.

ENROLMENT IN SCHOOL FOR HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS IN PROGRESS

Nis – The international “Civil Rights Defenders” organization extended to January 26 the enrollment deadline for the first generation of students of the school for the future defenders of human rights. The school will begin in February 2015 and will run for the next seven months.

CARITAS LUXEMBOURG WINNER OF THE AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTION TO THE ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF ROMA AND OTHER VULNERABLE GROUPS IN SOUTH SERBIA

At a ceremony marking 13 years of existence, the NGO "Life Aid" awarded the “Caritas Luxembourg” Foundation in recognition of the outstanding contribution to the economic empowerment and creating the opportunities for self-employment of Roma and other vulnerable groups in South Serbia.

DRAGISA PETROVIC - NEW MAYOR OF MEDVEDJA

Medvedja – Dragisa Petrovic (63), an entrepreneur and a councilman of the Group of Citizens "Gornja Jablanica", is the new Mayor of Medvedja. He was elected at the local assembly’s session, which was attended by OSCE representatives.
