New occurrences in Medvedja, one of the poorest municipalities in South Serbia - Medvedja - Last year, 260 persons got employed at the “Lece” lead, gold and zinc mine. Three years ago, the “Lece” mine got a new majority owner, which is the “Farmakom” Company from Sabac. 10 million euros were invested in renovation of the uncared-for mine, while experts believe that the investment would soon pay off. According to the research that has been done so far, it will be possible to extract ores from the mine over the next half a century.

Tobacco- manufacturing in South Serbia

Milan Prostran, Secretary of the Farming Association within the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC), said that Serbia should maintain the production of tobacco, since it was lucrative from an economic point of view. He said that top-quality tobacco was manufactured in Serbia and that the entire annual output of tobacco could be exported.

The aim of the Coordination Body is to ensure a better quality of life in South Serbia

Belgrade - The Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja was established in Bujanovac on December 16, 2000. It was set up during a joint  session of the governments of the FRY and the Republic of Serbia, with the aim of ensuring safety and security, while its current goal is to provide a better quality of life in that part of Serbia.

January 17, 2011 - BIOMASS IN “TERMOVENT”

Мedvedja – The Slovenian government’s development agency is going to earmark 1 million euros in the EU IPA funds for the manufacturing of briquette and biomass in Medvedja. Slobodan Draskovic, President of the Municipality of Medvedja, says that they signed contracts with six Slovenian companies, which are going to be partners of the aforesaid development agency.

The surroundings of Paracin, Kopaonik Mt, Presevo, Bujanovac, Kursumlija, as well as the port of Prahovo, are the cites from where cluster bombs, live ammunition and  projectiles are going to be removed in 2011.

January 17, 2011 - JOURNALISTS FROM SOUTH SERBIA IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH BRUSSELES AND WASHINTGTON

Vranje – „Reporters of the local and central Belgrade media from South Serbia will soon be in a position to have the news for the front page , since they will be able , via a video link, to contact the NATO and EU officials in Brussels and Washington,“ said Nadica Stosic, the Head of the „Initiative for Integration“ NGO. She also said that the project would be implemented in cooperation with NATO’s Public Diplomacy Department in the course of February 2011.

AS MANY AS 250 CATTLE-BREEDERS FROM POOR MEDVEDJA REPORTED THEMSELVES FOR IMPORTING PUREBRED CATTLE Мedvedja – Around 250 farmers from Medvedja, which is one of the poorest municipalities in Serbia, reported themselves for participating in the program for purchasing purebred cows from Austria, the value of which is around fifty million dinars.  The purchasing of cows will be funded by the government, the municipality of Medvedja and by “Sabac Dairy”, while stock farmers from the slopes of Goljak Mt. claim that this is the only way in which life could return to South Serbia.
