Second Session of the Presidency of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, May 26, 2009

Moderate Optimism Following a Session of the Coordination Body's Presidency The second session of the reconstructed Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja was held on the premises of the Coordination Body's Office in Bujanovac. The session of the Presidency was dedicated to resolving the most important issues of the southern Serbian municipalities. A particular emphasis was put on the issue of establishing multiethnic governments in Bujanovac and Presevo, as well as on the issue of including Albanians in the local institutions of the Republic of Serbia.

Saša Janković, Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia (Republican Ombudsman), along with his deputies and twenty or so of his associates, is going to be in Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja on May 26 and 27, 2009, where he will talk with representatives of the local self-governments and citizens about their greatest problems and about  improvement in the exercising of citizens’ rights.

Sasa Jankovic, Protector of Citizens (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Serbia, is going to visit Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja next week, where he is going to speak with the citizens and representatives of the local self-governments about the greatest problems there, as well as about an improvement in the exercising of the citizens’ rights.

Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body for South Serbia, said yesterday that the establishment of multi-ethnic governments in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja would lead to an ease of tensions in that part of Serbia. At a session of the Serbian Parliament’s Board for Multi-Ethnic Relations, at which the current political and economic situation in Bujanovac was discussed, Mr. Markovic said  that the establishment of multi-ethnic governments in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja is a presumption for peaceful and stable work, as well as for good relations in those three municipalities.

At today’s session of the Municipal Assembly of Presevo, a decision was reached on a change of the local government, which consisted of the Party for Democratic Action (4 members of the Serbian National Assembly from Presevo) of Riza Halimi and the Democratic Party of Albanians (12 members of the Serbian National Assembly from Presevo) of Ragmi Mustafa.

As part of the Ministry of Culture's »Serbia in Serbia« activity, the »Kolo« national folk troupe gave its first concert at the Bujanovac »Vuk Karadzic« community center last night.  Both Serbian and Albanian folk troupes performed during the program. The concert was opened by Minister of Culture Nebojsa Bradic.

As part of the Ministry of Culture’s „Serbia in Serbia“ activity, the „Kolo“ national ensemble is going to give its concerts in Vladicin Han, Bujanovac and Medvedja from today until May 12, 2009.

The European Union is going to earmark 14 million euros for a joint water supply system of the municipalities of Vranje, Bujanovac and Preševo, said Igor Andonov, Deputy Mayor of Vranje. Mr. Andonov said that the Government of the Republic of Serbia would participate in the project with 14 million euros. Preparation of the project documentation is underway, while the construction works on the joint water supply system should begin in 2011. It was planned for the  the works to be completed by 2014, after which the newly constructed water supply system of the three municipalities should be linked to the Prvonek system, which was completed in the municipality of Vranje four years ago.

Representatives of Vranje’s „Simpo“and the Swedish „Ikea“signed a contract, the value of which is 5.5. million euros. The above-mentioned deal was struck following a recent visit of the owner of „Ikea“to the „Simpo“company in Vranje, when Dragan Tomic, Director General of „Simpo, “and Ingvar Kampard, the owner of „Ikea, “which is the world’s largest furniture manufacturer, reached an agreement on new forms of co-operation and on concrete deals, for the purpose of achieving joint economic interests.
