JAPANESE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS AND RESEARCHERS

Nis – The “Japan Tobacco International” (JTI) Company and the Embassy of Japan announced a competition for the award of Sakura scholarships for the fourth year in a row.  

The competition is aimed at students and researchers who aren’t permanently employed and who have good research ideas in different areas, which include the Japanese language, literature and culture, social and technical sciences, and economics.

FOREST THIEVES CAUSE HAVOC IN SOUTH SERBIA

The practice of illegal deforestation in the area around Vranje continued this year, too, while the number of recorded forest thieves increased, said the “Green Network” association.

Beech forests owned by the state suffer the most, while several criminal charges for the unauthorized felling of trees were filed.

NEW LOOK OF BUJANOVAC

Vranje – The reconstruction and putting in order of the central square in Bujanovac is to be completed in a month’s time. 

As planned, the central pedestrian zone should get a new look and become an improved business zone.  It is aimed at reviving the square, opening new shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as at attracting tourists.

AWARD GIVEN TO”CONNECTION”

Vranje – The Regional Connection Center from Vladicin Han was selected by the Office for European Integration for one of the 13 best examples of the cross-border practice in the Republic of Serbia over the past two years.

According to Tatjana Panic Zivkovic, the Project Manager, the criteria by which the projects were evaluated included the impact of the project, the sustainability of the project results and of the partnerships made, transparence, relevance to the territory, cross-border impact, significant impact on the target group, the inter-sectorial cooperation and cooperation with the public and civil society sectors.

“PROGRAM BUDGETING” IS BEING PREPARED

The workshop on program budgeting, which was held in Vranje, brought together representatives of the cities and municipalities in South Serbia, who discussed the introduction of this kind of budget-making at the local level in 2015.  

Program budgeting means establishment of a new way of planning and allocating the budgetary funds. Practically, it will now be possible to measure how much the offered solutions to a problem will cost, which hasn’t been the case so far.

NORWEGIAN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SERBIAN STUDENTS

Nis – The University of Science and Technology of the Norwegian city of Trondheim announced a competition for scholarships to study in the 2015 spring semester.  

Eligible to apply for scholarships are students from Serbia who are studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Medicine and the Faculty of Occupational Safety.

WORKSHOP ON PROGRAM BUDGETING

Vranje – Yesterday, a regional workshop on program budgeting was held in Vranje, which brought together representatives of the cities and municipalities of the Pcinj, Jablanica and Toplica districts. On behalf of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM), which was the organizer of the workshop, the attendees were greeted by Dunja Naic, the Secretary of the Finance Committee. She spoke about the role of the SCTM in the preparation of the program budget and the support of local self-governmental units through the “Exchange 4” program, which is funded by the European Union.

LAWS ON REFORM OF THE LOCAL SELF-GOVERMENTS SOON

Belgrade – Kori Udoviocki, the Minister of Public Administration, announced that changes to the law will soon be made, which enable the participation of local self-governments in the European integration, as well as their professionalization.  

“The Law on Amendments to the Law on Local Self-government is almost ready and it will enable the local self-governments to follow-up the European Integration and to participate in it”, said Ms. Udovicki at a conference on the introduction of the EU offices and officers in the local authorities, where she pointed out that such a change in the government wouldn’t lead to the employment of more people.

THIRD UNIVERSITY ENROLLMENT PERIOD

Following the second enrollment period, the vacancies at the most faculties of Nis University weren’t filled, so that a third enrollment period was organized at some of them.  

The submission of applications for the third enrollment cycle at the Faculty of Law in Nis, where there are 119 self-financing vacancies and an additional 26 vacancies at the Faculty of Law’s Department in Medvedja, begins on Friday, September 26.

WORKS ON THE COMBINED PLAYGROUND IN BUJANOVAC COMPLETED

As part of the project “The Development of Infrastructure in Roma Settlements in South Serbia”, the works on the construction of a combined children's and sports playground in Bujanovac were completed in early August.  The main objective of the project was to improve the social infrastructure and to provide better living conditions in Roma settlements in South Serbia. In the “Morava 76” settlement in Bujanovac, there was no room for children to play, so that the construction of the said playground contributes to better social interaction among the residents of the settlement and the wider community, especially among young people and children.
