ESTABLISHMENT OF A WORKING GROUP FOR DEVELOPING UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN PRESEVO AND BUJANOVAC

BELGRADE – The Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja and the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Center for Non-Violent Resistance and the Center for Educational Policies, held a discussion on preliminary results and conclusions of the Feasibility Study for the Opening of Institutions of Higher Learning in Presevo and Bujanovac at the Palace of Serbia on March 3, 2010.

MINISTER MILAN MARKOVIC’S LETTER TO THE CITIZENS OF PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA

At the end of February 2010, Minister Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, submitted to all citizens of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja a report on the Coordination Body’s activities in the previous year.  The report, which was in the form of a letter in Serbian, Albanian and Romany, was sent to the addresses of all citizens of these three municipalities.

MULTIETHNIC PROJECT „YOU AND I ARE WE“ IN VOJVODINA

Novi Sad A multiethnic play „You and I are We“,  a project in which Albanian, Serbian and Roma secondary-school students from Bujanovac and Presevo take part ,  is going to have guest performances  in Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Sombor, Sid and Sremska Mitrovica in the period from February 25 until March 2, 2010.  The play resulted from an educational and artistic project of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, which made it possible for participants in the project to develop tolerance and better understanding of other cultures through playing games and associating with one another.

PARTICIPATION OF MINORITY COMMUNITIES IN INSTITUTIONS AND THE EXERCISING OF THEIR RIGHTS

On February 23, 2010, the Center for Democracy and Development of South Serbia and the “JUGpress” regional information agency organized a meeting “Kosovo is on the other side – How to Go on after the Conflict”. The major topic discussed in the meeting was the importance of participation of minority communities in the institutions and the exercising of their rights in the region.

MP RIZA HALIMI AND SECONDARY SCHOOL GRADUATES ON ESTABLISHMENT OF ALBANIAN NATIONAL COUNCIL

As part of the project „Let’s Familiarize Ourselves with our Rights”, which is implemented by the „Center for Multicultural Education” NGO from Presevo, a roundtable on the importance of establishing the Albanian National Council was held on the premises of the Human Rights Youth Initiative organization.

PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF THE FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE OPENING OF INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING IN PRESEVO AND BUJANOVAC PUBLISHED

BUJANOVAC – Yesterday (February 18), representatives of the Center for Non-Violent Resistance (CNR) and Center for Education Policy (CEP) presented in Bujanovac preliminary results of institutions of higher learning in Presevo and Bujanovac.

CULTURAL NEEDS OF THE YOUNG

A meeting on identifying problems with cultural needs of the young from the municipality of Bujanovac was held in Bujanovac on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. The meeting was organized as part of the project “Promotion of Cultural Needs and the Spirit of Tolerance among the Young of the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja”. The project is implemented by the “Center for Democracy and Development of South Serbia” NGO, which uses the funds received in an open competition of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.

YOUNG ALBANAINAS, SERBS AND ROMA TOGETHER AT A LECTURE IN BUJANOVAC

On Saturday, February 6, 2010, the Civil Resource Center from Bujanovac organized two lectures, which were part of the “The Young for the Young” project, which is funded by the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. The first lecture was dedicated to volunteering, while the second one was on the harm that tobacco and tobacco smoke cause to people’s health.

COORDINATION BODY ANNOUNCED NEW OPEN COMPETITIONS FOR FUNDING PROJECTS IN PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA

On March 5, 2010, the Office of the Coordination Body announced two new open competitions for funding projects in Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. 

The announced open competitions are for programs and projects of the associations of citizens for the purpose of providing assistance to the population of the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja in 2010. The associations of citizens that are registered in the territory of the Republic of Serbia, as well as  those that submit their project proposals in accordance with the clearly- set Guidelines for Project Proposal Submitters, shall have the right to participate in the open competitions. Under this open competition, 5,000,000.00 dinars shall be allocated, while the maximum amount of the financial resources per project is 500,000.00 dinars.

AGREEMENT ON COOPERTION BETWEEN BASKETBALL CLUBS „BSK JUNIOR“AND „ELITA“SIGNED

BUJANOVAC – On Tuesday, February 23, the Agreement on Cooperation between Basketball Clubs BSК Јuniorand „Еlitawas signed.  The agreement was signed by Miroslav Ristic from basketball club “BSK Junior” and by Selami Selimi from basketball club “Elita”. The agreement was also signed by Minister Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, and by Saip Kamberi, President of the Municipality of Bujanovac, as guarantors of the agreement.

Press release - „YOU AND I ARE WE“IN KIKINDA, ZRENJANIN, SREMSKA MITROVICA, SID, SOMBOR AND LOZNICA

NOVI SADFollowinga great success of a multiethnic play “You and I are We” in Bujanovac and Belgrade in December 2009, which is a teenage show on growing up in South Serbia, the Albanian, Serbian and Roma secondary-school students from Presevo and Bujanovac are going to perform the play in their own three languages, as well as in English, in Kikinda (February 25), Zrenjanin (February 26), Sremska Mitrovica (February 27), Sid (February 28) and Sombor (March 2). The play is going to open the 39th. Vukov sabor in Loznica on May 19.

YOUNG ALBANIANS AND SERBS WANT TO HAVE AN ALBANIAN-SERBIAN DICTIONARY

Albanian and Serbian secondary school students want to have an Albanian-Serbian dictionary made, which would facilitate their daily communication. This is one of the conclusions reached at a workshop on the cultural needs of the young in Presevo, which was organized by the Center for Democracy and Development of South Serbia. Young Albanians and Serbs agree that it is a good idea to organize crash courses in Serbian and Albanian and they believe that a large number of the young in Presevo would be interested in them.

BELGRADE – On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, Boris Tadic, President of the Republic of Serbia, met with MP Riza Halimi and with President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja Milan Markovic.

ADDITIONAL MEDICAL CARE AND SERVICES FOR 861 CITIZENS OF MEDVEDJA

In September 2009, Health Center Medvedja applied in the Coordination Body’s open competition with the project “Medical Assistance to and Care of the Persons with Special Needs and Vulnerable People”. The said open competition was announced as part of the Program for Distribution and Usage of the Funds for the Projects related to the Exercising and Promotion of Social and Minority Rights and Particular Qualities. The funds amounting to 1,356,500.00 dinars were approved to Medvedja, so that, in December 2009, it got an ambulance, the  aim of which is the improvement of healthcare, follow-up and provision of additional medical care and services to particularly vulnerable groups of people.

AGREEMENT ON DISTRIBUTION OF FUNDS REACHED

It was unanimously agreed at the yesterday’s session of the Presidency of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja that out of 229,278,000.00 dinars, which is the sum that may be transferred from the republican budget this year, the municipality of Bujanovac should get 42 per cent   (96,296,760.00 dinars), Presevo 40.5 per cent (92,857,590.00 dinars) and Medvedja 17.5 per cent of it (40,123,650.00 dinars).
