MINORITIES IN POLICE RANKS

Source: Večernje nosvosti / The generation that has just completed training at the Basic Police Training Centre in Sremska Kamenica consists of trainees from police departments in Vranje, Leskovac and Belgrade, which means that they come from different environments, but during the training and the final examination they showed that this wasn’t an obstacle to acquiring new knowledge and skills by working together. This class is important because after many years 12 ethnic Albanians, who were among 109 beneficiaries of the basic police course, completed the training and they will be working in South Serbia.

22 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS REVEALED ON A TRAIN

Source: Politika / A few days ago, thanks to the joint activity of the customs officers and border police, 22 illegal immigrants were prevented, on the Presevo border-crossing, from crossing the border into Serbia. They were on a train that runs from Greece to Western Europe. Six of them were Bangladeshi nationals, while two were from Mali, and one each from Nepal, Syria, Rwanda, Guinea and Pakistan. They were discovered in a train car that contained a truck-trailer that transported aluminum profiles, while another eight Algerian nationals were found in a truck- trailer which transported iron.

BUJANOVAC, ONE OF THE FEW MUNICIPALITIES WITH AN ANIMAL SHELTER, WHICH IS CLOSED

Source: Večernje novosti – Serbia / Bujanovac – The municipality of Bujanovac is one of the few municipalities in South Serbia that has an asylum for dogs, which was built back in 2009. Although it seemed that this would solve the problem of stray dogs, it didn’t. Because of the unresolved problem with financing the asylum, the municipality pays huge sums in legal proceedings launched by the citizens bitten by stray dogs, while the asylum is kept under a lock.

TRANSPORTATION FOR STUDENTS WHO COVER LONG DISTANCES TO SCHOOL

Source: Narodne novine – Niš / Presevo – Although the municipality of Presevo is among the least developed municipalities in Serbia, it is one of the few ones that provides organized transportation for students who live up to ten kilometers away from the school they attend.

Ambassador Degert Visits Municipalities in South Serbia

Source: Tanjug / Belgrade - Vincent Degert, Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, will today and tomorrow, visit Presevo, Bujanovac and Vranje. Today, Ambassador Degert will open in Presevo the Citizens’ Advisory Service, meet with Mayor Ragmi Mustafa and visit the “Ibrahim Keljmendi” primary school, where joinery works have been done.

JOY FOR 55 CATTLE-BREEDERS

PBILD PROVIDED PERSONAL DOCUMENTS FOR 700 ROMA PERSONS

Source: Jugpress / Bujanovac - PBILD Program has, so far, implemented over 100 projects, including the one on the provision of identity documents for around 700 Roma persons in South Serbia, said Nicholas Hercules, PBILD Program Manager. PBILD supports a whole range of projects, from economic ones to those regarding the creation of new jobs, clubs for persons with disabilities, development of inter-ethnic relations and youth clubs, he added.
