Invitation to members of the press: PRESIDENT OF THE COORDINATION BODY MINISTER MILAN MARKOVIC IS GOING TO DELIVER FREE SCHOOL EQUIPMENT FOR FIRST GRADE STUDENTS IN PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA

On the first day of the school year, at 11.30 am, on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, during a formal event, President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Milan Markovic is going to deliver free school bags and school equipment to the first grade students of elementary schools “Deveti maj” (the 9th. of May) and “Vuk Karadzic” in Presevo, as well as to those of elementary schools “Miharem Kadriu” and “Dragomir Trajkovic” in Bujanovac. The event will also be attended by Presidents of the Municipalities of Presevo and Bujanovac.

Reconstructed Border Crossing Near Prohor Pcinjski Monastery Presevo – The Prohor Pcinjski border crossing was formally opened yesterday following the completion of works on its reconstruction. The reconstruction works on the Prohor Pcinjski border crossing were completed ahead of the contratcted deadline, in about five months. The border crossing was  constructed  at a more accessable spot and it has four new traffic lanes, two of them at the enterance and two of them at the exist of the country. Traffic-lights were installed and new premises for customs officers and members of the border police were built.

Assistance with Small Business Initiatives in South Serbia The “HELP” organization launched a campaign related to the project “Decrease of Poverty through Support to Sustainable Local Development in South Serbia” in the territory of the city of Vranje. The project is implemented in the territory of the cities of Nis and Vranje, and of the municipalities of Aleksinac, Bujanovac, Pirot and Presevo. It is funded by the German government and the above-mentioned cities and municipalities. Its overall value is 956.200 EUR, and it will be implemented in the period from July 2010 until December 2011. The value of the part of the project that is implemented in the territory of the city of Vranje is around 130,000 EUR, out of which the city of Vranje participates with around 56,000 EUR.

MATTRESS PLANT OPERATES AT FULL STEAM UNTIL THE END OF THE YEAR Bujanovac – The largest mattress plant in Europe, which is situated in Bujanovac, operates at full steam, said Sladjan Disic, Director General of „Simpo“, within which the Bujanovac mattress plant operates. The Bujanovac-based plant manufactures goods intended for exports, while a smaller portion of the manufactured goods is intended for the domestic market, and that is how things are going to remain until the end of the year.

SPORTS AND TOLERANCE CAMP AT VLASINA LAKE 56 elementary school students participated in the first “Sports and Tolerance Camp” at Vlasina Lake. A group of physical education teachers from South Serbia came up with the idea of organizing this kind of event for schoolchildren.

130,000 EUR FROM GERMAN HUMANITARION ORGANIZATION “HELP” By December 2011, the German humanitarian organization “HELP” and the city of Vranje will have supported 50 beginners in business operations or those planning to develop the already launched business operations with 130,000 EUR.

MLADGRAD 2010 Today, the MLADGRAD award was for the first time given to local self-governments and the media for their contribution to the improvement of the position of the young in local community. The award was given by the Civic Initiatives, as well as by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry for Public Administration and Local Self-Government. The award was given as part of marking the International Youth Day and the beginning of the year of the youth according to the UN calendar.

WE NEED A FACULTY IN BUJANOVAC The solving of several great problems in the field of education is the priority of the Albanian National Council, which was recently registered at the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights. Galip Beciri from the Party of Democratic Action, which at the June 6 elections won 24 out of the total of 29 seats in the Council, was elected the first President of the Albanian national Council. Mr. Beciri said that he expected that the Council would become fully operational in September. He also expects to receive the first funds from Serbia’s budget this September. In the meantime, he will try to solve the accommodation issue, since the building that was allocated to the Council by the Bujanovac self-government should be renovated.

THE OPEN COMPETITION IN WRITING AND DRAWING/PAINTING ENTITLED “BUJANOVAC AS I SEE IT”

As part of the project “I like Bujanovac”, which was supported by the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, the Center for Tolerance and Integration of South Serbia announced an open competition in writing and drawing/painting on the topic of “Bujanovac as I See It”.
