LAWS ON REFORM OF THE LOCAL SELF-GOVERMENTS SOON

26. September 2014.

Belgrade – Kori Udoviocki, the Minister of Public Administration, announced that changes to the law will soon be made, which enable the participation of local self-governments in the European integration, as well as their professionalization.

“The Law on Amendments to the Law on Local Self-government is almost ready and it will enable the local self-governments to follow-up the European Integration and to participate in it”, said Ms. Udovicki at a conference on the introduction of the EU offices and officers in the local authorities, where she pointed out that such a change in the government wouldn’t lead to the employment of more people.

“According to the previous systematization, it wasn’t impossible to single out the persons that would be in charge of the EU, and it is one of the failures that will be rectified by these legislative changes", Ms. Udovicki said, adding that a series of elements regarding the functioning of local communities would be regulated, too.

The Minister announced that the Government would soon deal with the Law on the Employees of the Autonomous Provinces and Local Self-governments, which will allow for a civil service career system based on the principles of depoliticization and professionalization.
