AS MANY AS 250 CATTLE-BREEDERS FROM POOR MEDVEDJA REPORTED THEMSELVES FOR IMPORTING PUREBRED CATTLE

Мedvedja
– Around 250 farmers from Medvedja, which is one of the poorest municipalities in Serbia, reported themselves for participating in the program for purchasing purebred cows from Austria, the value of which is around fifty million dinars.  The purchasing of cows will be funded by the government, the municipality of Medvedja and by “Sabac Dairy”, while stock farmers from the slopes of Goljak Mt. claim that this is the only way in which life could return to South Serbia.

According to the plan, 5,000 liters of milk is to be collected every day, which would then be pasteurized in the former kitchen of the “Termovent” plant, and which would finally be manufactured in Sabac.   The price of a purebred cow ranges from 1,500 to 2,000 euros.

Slobodan Draskovic, President of the Municipality of Medvedja, says that the aforementioned program is currently one of the most serious „green plans“in Serbia.   Cattle-breeders will pay back for the cows in milk, but the repayment period hasn’t yet been set. The buy off spot is going to be located in the former kitchen of the „Termovent“plant. Every other day, a 10,000 liter tank – truck will carry away the collected milk, Mr. Draskovic said.
