Presevo – The Prohor Pcinjski border crossing was formally opened yesterday following the completion of works on its reconstruction.

The reconstruction works on the Prohor Pcinjski border crossing were completed ahead of the contratcted deadline, in about five months. The border crossing was  constructed  at a more accessable spot and it has four new traffic lanes, two of them at the enterance and two of them at the exist of the country. Traffic-lights were installed and new premises for customs officers and members of the border police were built.

A continued growth of traffic is registered on the Prohor Pcinjski border crossing. In the period from the beginning of the year until now, around 9,000 vehicles and 27,000 passangers crossed it.  The number of border crossings increased in 2009 by around 30 per cent compared with 2008 and over the past few months there was a 10 per cent increase in traffic on this border crossing in comparison with the same period last year.

„The Prohor Pcinjski border crossing is an important alternative to the Presevo border crossing, which is under a lot of pressure, particularly during the summer season, said Zarica  Veselinovic, Manager of the Nis-based Custom House.  Upon completion of the works on the Prohor Pcinjski border crossing, better conditions were provided both for passangers and the customs officers stationed there.
