GLOSSARY OF SOUTH SERBIA’S SPEECH PUBLISHED

A major publication of a writer and a retired university professor Momcilo Zlatanovic, PhD (1934), who comes from Vranje, under the title of “The Glossary of South Serbia’s Speech” (provincialisms, dialesctisms and barbarisms), has just come out of press.

SIMPO OUT OF BLOCKADE, PRODUCTION LAUNCHED

The “Simpo” company is out of blockade, thus creating the conditions for the start of the production process in some of its plants from September 15.   

According to “Simpo’s” Director General, Sladjan Disic, that applies primarily to the factory of upholstery products in Vranje and to the mattress factory in Bujanovac.

MILITARY EXERCISE “SHIELD 4”HELD AT THE JUG BASE

Bujanovac – The Serbian Army units that are to participate in multinational operations, which include a motorised infantry company, a military police platoon and a nuclear - biological- chemical defense squad, carried out  from September 9 to 12 the “Shield 4” military exercise at the Borovec  firing range  and at the Jug military base near Bujanovac.  

The military exercise was aimed at testing the achieved level of combat capabilities of the units declared for participating in multinational operations, in accordance with the Operational Capabilities Concept.

16 COMPANIES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF BUJANOVAC AWAIT NEW OWNERS

Fazila Azemovic, the Head of the Office for Local Economic Development in the municipality of Bujanovac, said that 16 socially-owned enterprises in Bujanovac would soon be privatized, because they were in the public offer, which was, in mid-August, sent by the Republican Agency for Privatization. Besides 11 companies that have their registered offices in Bujanovac, another five companies, which have their headquarters in other cities in Serbia, are included in the privatization process. Upon the adoption of the new Law on Privatization, the Privatization Agency submitted to the entities to be privatized in the portfolio of the Privatization Agency a public call for collecting letters of interest, which refers to the total of 502 companies in Serbia, which are either in bankruptcy or are undergoing a restructuring process, the deadline for which is September 15.  Мs. Azemovic said for the Beta news agency that the implementation of  privatization, under the new Law on Privatization, was invaluable for the municipality of Bujanovac, provided the privatization process was carried out in the positive direction and for the purpose of the actual recovery of the firms, among which, according to the municipal records, are eight formerly major socially-owned enterprises, of which only the empty halls remained now.

MR. PETROVIC: “THERE WERE NO ANIMAL DEATHS CAUSED BY BLUETONGUE”

The Director of the Nis-based Veterinary Specialist Institute, Milos Petrovic, said that there were no domestic animal deaths caused by the bluetongue disease, the existence of which was confirmed by lab results in the municipality of Medvedja, as well as in the villages of Grbavce and Ravna Spa.  

Mr. Petrovic said that the veterinary station in Lebane informed the Veterinary Specialist Institute that the disease at issue was bluetongue, adding that immediately upon this, the epidemiological service, veterinary inspections and veterinarians from Lebane visited a flock of sheep, while the clinical picture of the animals indicated the presence of the disease.

BLUETONGUE KILLS HERDS OF CATTLE

The “bluetongue” disease emerged in the area of the municipality of Medvedja. The disease at issue is a catarrhal fever, which is a viral disease that threatens to destroy the livestock, especially the sheep, so that veterinary teams are still in the field.  The municipality provided emergency financial assistance to 30 local residents who reported that they had observed the disease in their cattle, which affected around 300 sheep.

PRESENTATION OF THE STUDY ON THE POSSIBILITIES OF IMPROVING THE TEACHING AND LEARNING SERBIAN AS A SECOND LANGUAGE IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA

According to a study on the possibilities of improving the teaching and learning of Serbian as a second language in the elementary schools of the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja , which was presented at the meeting held in the Palace of Serbia, only five percent of the Albanian students from the said three municipalities, who learn Serbian as a second language, have the knowledge of Serbian and the functional ability for effective oral and written communication.

PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND PROTECTION OF MINORITIES IN SOUTH EAST EUROPE

The European Union and the Council of Europe are implementing the project “Promotion of Human Rights and Protection of Minorities in South East Europe” with the aim of improving access to the rights of national minorities at various governmental levels.  The implementation of the project is based on the Council of Europe’s standards in the field of minority rights, notably the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

MAJORITY OF TEXTBOOKS IN ALBANIAN PROVIDED

The Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, Srdjan Verbic,  along with the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja , Zoran Stankovic, distributed free textbooks and backpacks with school supplies to the first-grade students of the“Branko Radičević” and “Naim Fraseri” primary schools in Bujanovac. On that occasion, Minister Verbic said that the government had fulfilled its promise to print free textbooks for national minority students.
