MAJORITY OF TEXTBOOKS IN ALBANIAN PROVIDED

1. September 2014.

The Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, Srdjan Verbic,  along with the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja , Zoran Stankovic, distributed free textbooks and backpacks with school supplies to the first-grade students of the“Branko Radičević” and “Naim Fraseri” primary schools in Bujanovac. On that occasion, Minister Verbic said that the government had fulfilled its promise to print free textbooks for national minority students.

“There are no free textbooks, all of them have to be paid from the budget or parents have to purchase them. Our aim is that all those who are vulnerable, who can’t pay, should get the textbooks “, said Minister Verbic.  The Minister of Education underscored that it was in the interest of all of us in the country for the text books to be better.

After visiting the schools, the Education Minister Verbic met the mayor of Bujanovac, Nagip Arifi. Following the meeting, the Minister of Education and the Mayor of Bujanovac stated that most of the textbooks for elementary school students who attend classes in the Albanian language had been provided, while textbooks for some subjects hadn’t yet been approved.

“All the requests and proposals are aimed at ensuring that pupils in Bujanovac schools are better off and that they have better working conditions. I think that we have agreed about all the requests and that it’s important that they need to be solved.  What we disagree about at this point is the dynamics of problem solving”, said Minister Verbic.

The Coordination Body provided school supply sets to first graders in the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja this year, too. This year, 950 backpacks were distributed to the first graders.
