EUROPEAN PROGRESS CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR PARTNERSHIP PROJECTS OF MUNICIPALITIES AND CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS

As part of the European PROGRESS program, the first Call for Proposals (CfP) to support the projects that will be implemented in cooperation with local self-governments and civil society organizations was issued. These projects are aimed at the economic empowerment of vulnerable groups in southeastern and southwestern Serbia.

THREE NEW CALLS FOR APPLICATIONS ISSUED FOR FRUIT GROWERS FROM JABLANICA AND PCINJ DISTRICTS

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection and the Danish program for the development of fruit-growing in South Serbia “Fruits and Berries” issued recently the following three calls for applications for fruit growers from Jablanica, Pcinj, Nis, Toplice and Pirot Districts:

COMPETITION FOR NON-AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection – the Directorate for Agrarian Payments - announced a competition for the conditions and the manner of use of incentives for the promotion of economic activities in the countryside through the support of non-agricultural activities.

OFFICIAL MARKING OF THE FOURTH YEAR OF OPERATION OF THE SUBOTICA FACULTY OF ECONOMICS’ DEPARTMENT IN BUJANOVAC

On Monday, October 6, the beginning of a new academic year and the enrollment of the fourth generation of students in the Subotica Faculty of Economics’ Department in Bujanovac was marked at the “Vuk Karadzic” cultural center in Bujanovac.

MR. BIELEY HEADS OSCE OFFICE IN BUJANOVAC

Bujanovac – The new Head of the OSCE office in Bujanovac is the American Jeffrey Bieley, who recently took office and who replaced Eric Manton, who was also an American, and whose mandate ended on July 31, 2014.  

According to the OSCE Office in Bujanovac, Jeffrey Bieley had previously worked in the UN Office in Kosovo and Metohija, and he, thereafter, obtained an MA degree in international relations from Harvard University in 2013.   

Mr. Bieley is the fifth Head of the OSCE Office in Bujanovac, which was founded in 2001.

The said Office was previously headed by the Italian Roberto Montella, Briton Martin Brooks, Dutchman Jeroen De Vries and American Eric Manton.

ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS WOMEN OF PCINJ DISTRICT FOUNDED

Following the newly established associations in Novi Pazar, Zajecar and Subotica, Pcinj district got its own Business Women's Association, which was supported by the U.S. Embassy in Serbia, too.

The newly established Association will include female entrepreneurs from several municipalities in South Serbia, whereas the initiative, in addition to encouraging women to become entrepreneurs, strives towards providing opportunities for self-employment and economic empowerment of women in Pcinj district.

CORN-PICKING BEGAN IN PCINJ DISTRICT

Vranje - This year's harvest of corn, which was this spring sown in an area of ​​10.500 acres, began in some municipalities of Pcinj district.  The Agricultural Advisory Office of Pcinj district says that good weather in recent days reduced the percentage of moisture in the soil, so that the pickers entered the fields with any problems, while the harvest takes place without interruption.

WARNING STRIKE STAGED IN JABLANICA DISTRICT

Leskovac – Due to the announcement about a reduction of wages by 10 percent, a one-hour warning strike will be held today in all the schools in the Jablanica district.  

According to Aleksandar Nicic, the President of the Trade Union of Education of Serbia (TUES) for the Jablanica District, a warning strike will be organized by not having the first class in the first and second shifts in all the educational institutions.

VICTIM OF BRUTAL MURDER WAS A PROMINENT BUSINESMAN

Ljubisa Nikolic, a resident of the village Oraovica, who was, following a traffic accident, shot on Wednesday in the village Ranutovac, near Vranje, by Srdjan Aleksic from Zitoradja, was a prominent and well-known businessman.

Mr. Nikolic was the owner of the “ITP” clothing factory in the village of Oraovica. His company became known to the public when he began producing flags for the FC Bayern from Munich.
