WHEAT HARVEST BEGAN IN THE FIELDS OF PCINJ DISTRICT

13. July 2015.

Vranje – Wheat harvest began on about 16,000 hectares of fields in Pcinj district, of which 40 percent is arable land in the territory of Vranje.  Nada Lazovic Djokovic of the Agricultural-Advisory Office in Vranje says that after the rainy weather, farmers from the district couldn’t wait for the sun to warm up the fields and for the wheat harvest to begin.

According to her, the first results show that this year's yield of wheat is “colorful”, because the yields range from 2 to 6 tones on those plots where farmers applied all the necessary agro-technical measures.  Regarding barley, the yields range from 2.5 to 4 tons per hectare, which is slightly lower than last year, said Ms. Lazovic Djokovic.

Farmers still don’t know the purchase price of wheat, which will be harvested in twenty days. There has been no organized purchase of wheat in Vranje for years, so that those who wish to sell it can do so at small private mills, where the current redemption price is around 17 dinars per kilogram. The lack of purchase spots, due to the lack of silos, doesn’t bother only farmers from Vranje, but also those from Krusevac to Presevo.
