VEGETABLE GROWERS FROM THE RECEPTION CENTER IN PRESEVO

25. June 2018.

Presevo -  Migrants from the Reception Center in Presevo and vulnerable single mothers from the local community jointly produce vegetables in greenhouses. The project, which the US government funds with two and a half million dinars, is implemented by the NGO "Životna pomoć" from Vranje.

Single mothers from Presevo and migrants from the Reception Center jointly grown peppers, tomatoes, lettuce and radishes in four greenhouses. They communicate in English, as well as by means of hands and gestures.

The vegetables are grown without using chemicals, which gives good results. The yields of about two tons of tomatoes and a ton and a half of peppers per greenhouse are expected.

Ljubinka Milovanovic, from the NGO "Životna pomoć", said that 50 percent of the grown vegetables would be used to feed migrants, while the remaining 50 percent was intended for socially vulnerable women, who would be able, if they wished, to sell the vegetables, for which the NGO "Životna pomoć" would provide financial resources.

Slobodan Savov, from the Commissariat for Refugees, said that fewer migrants were staying at the Reception Centers in the Pcinj district, as well as that only 95 people, most of them from Iran, were currently accommodated at the Reception Center in Presevo.
