VACCINATION OF CATTLE IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF BUJANOVAC, PRESEVO AND MEDVEDJA

Bujanovac, Presevo, Medvedja – The vaccination of cattle against the nodular dermatitis or lumpy skin infectious disease began in the municipalities of Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja last Friday afternoon and it ended on Sunday, when a breakdown of the cattle, which had been vaccinated until then, was prepared.

Miodrag Milkovic, the Director of the Veterinary Station in Bujanovac, said that 9,500 vaccines had been procured for the purposes of vaccinating the cattle in the municipalities of Bujanovac and Presevo, 7, 000 doses of the vaccine for the municipality of Bujanovac and 2,500 for the municipality of Presevo. The vaccines were then distributed to veterinarians, the teams of which immediately went to the field.

In less than a day and a half, a total of 2,969 cattle were vaccinated in 862 households in the municipality of Bujanovac, as well as 858 animals in 286 households in the municipality of Presevo.

“It is a little bit over 70 per cent of the total number of cattle in these municipalities, "said Miodrag Milkovic.

“What is encouraging is the fact that symptoms of the disease, which had been first confirmed in the area of ​​the municipality of Bujanovac on June 4, due to which an epidemic of animal disease had been declared, weren’t observed in any of the vaccinated animals, "Mr. Milkovic said, adding that it took the vaccinated cattle two to four weeks to build up immunity to the virus.

The vaccination of cattle against the aforementioned serious disease of cattle started, on Friday afternoon, in the area of the municipality of Medvedja, too. 

Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, said that 4,000 vaccines had arrived for the municipalities of Medvedja and Lebane, as well as that all the cattle in the territory of the two municipalities would be vaccinated in the following ten days.

Mayor Arsic appealed to the cattle owners not to take their cattle out of the stables and not to let them out to pasture until all the cattle were vaccinated.

The vaccination will last from seven to ten days. The payment of compensations from the republican budget to the households that had lost their cattle due to a virus already started.
