USAID AND DAS TO MARK SUCCESS IN IMPROVING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF COMPANIES IN SOUTHERN AND SOUTHWESTERN SERBIA

Belgrade - The Development Agency of Serbia (DAS) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) will today officially present the results and mark the successful implementation of the Project for Private Sector Development (PSD), which they were implementing over the past four years. 

The project for the development of the private sector was worth 4 million US dollars and was intended to strengthen private sector firms in 12 municipalities in economically disadvantaged areas of southern and southwestern Serbia: Nis, Leskovac, Novi Pazar, Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja, Raska, Sjenica, Tutin, Priboj, Prijepolje and Nova Varos. 

The project provided services to 184 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and eight business associations and clusters, which were in the form of entrepreneurship training, mentoring, awarding grants for the purchase of the equipment, as well as the opportunities to participate in international trade fairs.

As announced, speakers at the event include Kyle Scott, the US Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, Rados Gazdic, the Acting Director of the Development Agency of Serbia, Ana Zegarac, the Head of the Planning and Development Office of the DAS, and a representative of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Serbia. 

The opening remarks will be followed by a panel discussion on the results of the project, in which representatives of the regional development agencies and beneficiaries of the project will participate.
