UNHCR’S ASSISTANCE TO RECEPTION CENTER IN PRESEVO

Presevo –From June until today, the UN refugee agency in Serbia (UNHCR) donated the equipment worth over 264, 000 dollars. The said equipment is used by the police at the Reception Center in Presevo,"said the Head of the agency Hans Soder and announced that the UNHCR would provide 16 million dollars in aid to Serbia in 2016.

He said at the Reception Center in Presevo that as part of the Regional Response Plan, the UN agencies and partners proposed set aside for Serbia a total of 45 million dollars in the coming year.

Mr. Soder said the UNHCR had provided 6.2 million dollars for the assistance to the Serbian government with the refugee crisis in 2015. According to him, those funds were used for food, clothing, blankets and other miscellaneous supplies, furniture, appliances, etc. Mr. Soder pointed out that the aim was to take a proper care of refugees, as well as to help the Serbian people.

When it comes to the donation for the Reception Center in Presevo, which is for the needs of the Ministry of Interior, the UNHCR in Serbia has, so far, donated eight devices for taking the refugees’ fingerprints, two of which are used in Dimitrovgrad, then 13 computers, two X-ray control detectors, two metal detectors, office furniture and other items used during registration.

To help refugees during the winter, the UNHCR provided heating in the Reception Center in Presevo, in three large pavilions and 35 containers, which can hold up to six people and are mainly designed for families with young children. All the containers will be properly supplied with heating from Monday onwards. Mr. Soder said that central heating was provided at the facility for pre-registration too, as well as at the two pavilions where refugees wait to be registered. Those facilities are fully equipped for the winter, while the UNHCR provided them in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council.
