TRAINING IN YOUTH ACTIVISM COMPLETED

12. July 2013.

Vranje – Last weekend, twenty-six young people from Presevo, Bujanovac, Vranje and Vladicin Han participated in Vrnjacka Spa in a training course in youth activism and in basic journalism.

This is the second part of the training of young people, which, last month, began in the field of human and minority rights for the purpose of raising the awareness of young people about the importance of respecting minority rights and about the training for active participation in the community. In the period from October 2013 to March 2014, the youth will be using the knowledge and skills acquired in the training to undertake the activities and do newspaper articles that will address the problems of minority communities in South Serbia.

These activities will be part of a six-month public campaign to raise the awareness about the importance of respecting minorities and providing opportunities for those minorities to exercise their rights.

In addition to youth activities and newspaper articles, the campaign will also include the marking of important international dates on human rights and minorities, expert lectures in secondary schools and street actions, including the participation of relevant institutions and the media.

From July 9 to 12, meetings of the local institutions and organizations will be held in these municipalities, whose services are used by members of minority groups with the aim of planning and coordinating the activities within the public campaign.

The training course for young people and the whole campaign are taken as part of a one - year project "Equate me!" which is organized in the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac, Vranje and Vladicin Han by the “Generator” organization from Vranje.

The project is aimed at making the society in these municipalities in South Serbia more sensitive to the importance of respecting minority rights, anti-discrimination and inclusion.

As part of the 2013 EDIHR program, the project is funded by the European Union.
