THIS MORNING’S STORM IN MEDVEDJA, FLOODS WASHED AWAY LOCAL ROADS

31. July 2014.

Stormy weather accompanied by heavy rain, which swept over the area of the municipality of Medvedja at around 6 am this morning, damaged the asphalt roads and homes in several villages, said the Mayor of Medvedja Slobodan Draskovic.

Torrential waters completely washed away most of the five-kilometer road leading to the village of Kapit and to the neighborhood of Cokotanci, as well as those leading to the villages of Marovac, Djulekare and Rujkovac.

“Due to the total damage of several roads, over 100 households are cut off from the rest of the municipality, while the torrential waters in the neighborhood of Cokotanci swept away the residents’ cattle and destroyed their orchards,  corn and vegetable fields. It is important that there are no human casualties. We shall immediately begin repairing the damaged spots that we can, but we also need the help of the Government of Serbia”, said Mr. Draskovic.

The storm that had hit Medvedja lasted for about two hours, whereas around 50 liters of rain per square meter fell.
