THERE IS NO OUTBREAK OF SMALLPOX IN BUJANOVAC

2. November 2017.

Bujanovac – Lela Jovanovic, a doctor and the Head of the Bujanovac Health Center, said that no epidemic of smallpox had been declared in Bujanovac, as reported by some media that had referred to the Vranje-based Institute of Public Health. Dr. Jovanovic pointed out that two cases of smallpox had been confirmed in the territory of Bujanovac, which was not a reason for declaring an epidemic.

She said that the first registered case was a young man from Bujanovac, who was studying in Pristina, Kosovo and Metohija, whereas the other one was a girl from a village near Bujanovac, who had a milder form of the disease, since she had been vaccinated.

The Head of the Health Center in Bujanovac urged the residents of Bujanovac to get vaccinated, so that the smallpox situation would not deteriorate and so that a real epidemic would not break out.

Aferdite Mustafa, a doctor at the Bujanovac Health Center, said earlier that residents of Bujanovac could be immunized for free at the Health Center every day from 7 am to 7 pm, as well as that the said health institution had a sufficient amount of the vaccine.

Under the Law on Protection of Population from Infectious Diseases, which was adopted last year, vaccination in Serbia is obligatory. Fines ranging from 30,000 to 150,000 dinars are envisaged for the parents or guardians who fail to have their children vaccinated.
