THEATRE PERFORMANCE THAT BREAKS DOWN ETHNIC BARRIERS

20. December 2010.

On Friday, December 17, 2010, the “We are the Whole World” play, which is delivered by the “You and I are We” youth center from Bujanovac, was performed at the packed “Rasa Plaovic” stage of the National Theatre.

Prior to the performance, the audience was addressed by Bozidar Djurovic, Director of the National Theatre, Miodrag Djuric, the Provincial Secretary for Culture, Nebojsa Bradic, Minister of Culture, as well as by Minister Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body.

This is the second multiethnic play of the youth center, which engages the young from South Serbia who are of various ethnic backgrounds. This time, the young from the south, those from Bujanovac and Presevo, worked along with their compeers from Kikinda. Twenty-eight of them performed for the Belgrade audience the “We are the Whole World” play at the National Theatre.

The play covers several topics, while the main motive of the play is forbidden love. So far, the play has been watched by citizens of Kikinda, Ljubljana and Bujanovac, while it was watched by the Belgrade audience last week.

By associating among themselves and by being creative, these young people send out the messages of love, friendship and peace. The things that they convey is that color of the skin, language, religion, culture and descent aren’t important since “You and I are We” and “We are the Whole World”.

We hope that the other citizens of Serbia and the region will also have the chance to hear, watch and feel this message.

The project was supported by the Provincial Secretariat for Culture of the Autonomous Province (AP) of Vojvodina and the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.
