THE LIBRARY IN MEDVEDJA MARKED 57 YEARS OF ITS EXISTENCE

19. March 2021.

Меdvedja - Municipal library "Petar Petrović Njegoš" in Medvedja, which was founded on March 16, 1964 under the name public library "Vuk Karadzic", was and has remained the most important cultural institution for the municipality and its residents.

Considering that the municipality of Medvedja marked the date of the foundation of the library for the first time this year, the director of that institution, Tijana Pejić, thanked the citizens for maintaining and cherishing the tradition of reading books.

“Although 57 years have passed since the founding of the Library and despite the fact that we are in a new digital age, in which access to online books is at hand, our readers have kept the habit of visiting the library and choosing books from the wide offer that a small community, such as Medvedja, can boast of. Our library is modern and encourages young people to develop intellectual skills and creativity.  That is why we have improved our work with activities on social networks, as a new type of communication with the users. This was done on the recommendation of the Ministry of Culture and Information. The Library has  the "Hometown Section" , which we are very proud of, as well as a large collection of books in foreign languages, where the literature in Albanian prevails with over 3, 000 titles. During the last year, regardless of the emergency situation, we worked with the users all the time. We have a very important cooperation with the preschool institution "Mladost", because we familiarize preschool children with the world of books and reading during the children's week and thus get future users of our Library, "said the director of the cultural institution.

On this occasion, the municipal library awarded individuals in several areas.

The library thanked the Medvedja Cultural Center, as well as the local Medvedja Radio, for the fruitful cooperation. It listed the National Library of Serbia, the University Library "Svetozar Markovic", the Matica Srpska Library, the Russian Cultural Fund, the University Library of Nis, the Association of Veterans of the People's Liberation Wars from Medvedja and prominent individuals, thanks to whom it had expanded its book fund.
