THE DAY OF THE PROTECTION OF NATURE MARKED IN NATURE PARK “RADAN”

Medvedja – A film "Radan Mt“was shown at the Visitors’ Center "Teodora", which is located near  the archaeological site Caričin grad.  The film reveals all the beauties of the said mountain, and the participants in the event visited Nature Park "Radan" - Caričin grad (Justiniana Prima), Ripi Voda and Prolom Spa.

The organizers of the event are the Institute for Nature Protection of Serbia and the Public Enterprise "Srbijašume", which the Government of the Republic of Serbia entrusted with running and managing this protected area.

The organizers say that the goal was to bring together representatives of state authorities, professional institutions, protected area managers, local self-governments, NGOs and media representatives to one place for the purpose of jointly drawing attention to the importance of conservation, protection and responsible use and management of natural resources.

Nature park "Radan" with a total area of 41,312 hectares is located in the territory of the municipalities of Kuršumlija, Bojnik, Lebane, Medvedja and Prokuplje.

This area is under protection so that the diversity of wildlife could be preserved, which is in the interest of science, education and the promotion of culture and sustainable economic and demographic development.  

The flora of the Radan area accounts for about 10% of the flora of the Balkan peninsula and about 22% of the flora of Serbia. The area of Radan is characterized by a relatively large wealth of birds that makes up about 30% of the total number of bird species in Serbia.

In the wider area of Radan, there are dozens of objects of monumental heritage that are specific in terms of the time of their origin, degree of preservation and artistic value.

 Among these objects are the archaeological site Caričin grad (Lebane), Šturac; the Golubovac church (Bojnik), Ivanje; the remains of the Church of Fiery Mary (Bojnik), Borince; Marino kale (Bojnik), Magas and the Church of St. Lazarus (Kursumlija, Prolom).
