THE BRITISH PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO CIVIC ACTIVISM IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN SOUTH SERBIA (DEADLINE: OCTOBER 6, 2019)

19. September 2019.

Local civil society organizations from Jablanica, Pcinj, Nis and Pirot districts may, by 6 October, apply for projects of public interest that can improve the quality of a larger number of citizens, while those selected will receive from the British Council grants amounting from 3,500 to 8,500 British pounds.

It is a program called “Support for Civic Activism in Communities”, implemented by the British Council, the Trag Foundation and the UK Government Good Governance Fund.

The competition is intended for informal groups or citizens' associations from South Serbia. The pilot phase of the project runs from September 2019 to May 2020.

The most successful and innovative initiatives will receive 20 grants up to a maximum of 3,500 British pounds, as well as 10 grants up to 8,500 British pounds. The competition is not open to state institutions, governmental bodies, party and religious organizations, nor to representatives of the private/profit sector.

Local topics that can be submitted to the competition can be from any area of public interest and must have the potential to improve the quality of life of a large number of citizens in a local area.

The program provides advisory and financial support for the selected projects, so that members of local initiatives have the opportunity to improve their advocacy skills and actively involve citizens in addressing issues of public interest in their local communities.
