SUPPORT OF THE GOVERNMENT OF SWITZERLAND TO CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS AND LOCAL SELF-GOVERNMENTS IN SERBIA

Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja – The Government of Switzerland will, through the Swiss PRO program, support socially innovative projects in Serbia with 420,000 euros. The support is provided to the civil society organizations (CSOs) and local self-governments (LSGs) that will initiate and implement socially innovative projects that focus on the needs of vulnerable groups and their social inclusion.  

The CSOs can get the grants for putting "new ideas tailored to the needs of the community" into practice through public calls, which will run until August 3, while the selected LSGs will first get technical support, and then the funds for the implementation of projects in partnership with the civil society sector.

Eligible to participate in the public call, which is intended for the civil sector, are the CSOs  experienced in implementing the projects aimed at vulnerable groups. The organizations must be registered for at least one year and must have a seat in one of the 99 LSGs covered by the EU PRO program. The program will support up to 25 organizations that will implement projects worth a minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of 14,000 euros.

Eligible to participate in the public call, which is intended for strengthening the capacity of LSGs, are the cities and municipalities from the program area that belong to the third and fourth group according to the degree of their development. The program will, through technical assistance, support up to ten LSGs that will improve their local policies and procedures for responsible and transparent financing of public interest projects that are carried out by CSOs.

The Swiss PRO program will organize info sessions on the project in the period from June 25 to July 5, 2018.  

The info session that the residents of Presevo and Bujanovac can attend will be organized at the building of the City Administration of Vranje (Kralja Milana 1) in Vranje at 11 am on July 4, while the session that the residents of Medvedja can attend will be organized at the Regional Center for Professional Development (Pariske komune bb) in Nis at 11 am on July 5.  

The Government of Switzerland’s program of support to the municipal development through the promotion of good governance and social inclusion - Swiss PRO will contribute to improving the quality of life of the citizens of Serbia, especially of those belonging to vulnerable social groups, through the promotion of the rule of law at the local level, strengthening social cohesion and increasing the accountability, transparency, efficiency and effectiveness of the local self-governments.
