STRENGTHENING GENDER EQUALITY IN 28 CITIES AND MUNICIPALITIES IN SERBIA

The Swiss PRO Program, as part of the public call "Let Equality Become a Reality", supported 28 local self-governments to implement the projects aimed at strengthening gender equality mechanisms. Over 5,000 citizens will directly benefit from those projects.

With the support of the Government of Switzerland worth more than 90,000 euros and the contribution of local self-governments in the amount of 25,000 euros, activities will be implemented that contribute to increasing the participation of women in the decision-making process, an improvement in the position of women in the local community, especially of rural women and members of vulnerable groups, as well as the economic empowerment and health of women and the fight against gender-based violence. The projects are also aimed at promoting the European Charter on Gender Equality at the local level, as well as at improving the competencies of local mechanisms.

Apart from other local self-governments, the local self-governments in Bujanovac and Medvedja also received support for strengthening gender equality.

The projects were selected as part of the public call that lasted from September 10 to October 23, 2020, which was open to 96 cities and municipalities from the region of Sumadija and western Serbia and the region of southern and eastern Serbia.
