SERBIA AND MACEDONIA TOGETHER: RAILWAY STATION SPRINGING UP ON THE BORDER

5. October 2018.

Presevo – Serbia and Macedonia will jointly build the railway station at the Tabanovce border crossing, while the construction works are planned to begin in 2020.

The technical documents for the joint Presevo-Tabanovce border crossing are in the final stage of preparation at the Ministry of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure. The project is financed by the funds which were donated to Macedonia by the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).

Macedonia will apply for funds for the works after the completion of documentation, while the rest of the funds will be provided through EBRD loan.

The Ministry said that one of the strategic objectives in international rail traffic was the establishment of an efficient rail connection with Macedonia and further with the port of Piraeus, to reduce the time of transportation of goods through Serbia and Macedonia, as well as from Central Europe to the port of Piraeus.

The activities undertaken in this field are implemented on the basis of the Agreement between the Governments of Serbia and Macedonia, by which border procedures are speeded up in order to improve the quality of transport services and security. As quoted by the Macedonian media, the value of the project is 4.5 million euros and works should be completed in 2024.
