SECTION OF HIGHWAY IN SOUTH SERBIA OPENED

7. July 2009.

„Doubtlessly, the results that the Serbian government achieved in the field of infrastructure, particularly those referring to construction of Corridor 10, are visible.
The construction of the modern highway, as well as a series of similar activities, indicate that we are a step closer to joining the European Union, as well as to having the visa regime for our citizens abolished.“
That is what, among other things, said Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic yesterday at the appropriate festive event, after he had visited the Levosoj – Presevo section of the modern highway Corridor 10. The said section of the highway is 22 kilometers long, whereas around 13 million euros were invested in it.
„It is a great pleasure to be in a position to open for traffic the first completed section of the modern highway that this government had promised to do and which it did. First and foremost, I would like to say that there is plenty of symbolism here as we’re opening this highway section on the date when this government was set up a year ago. The government made specific promises then, and also said that one shouldn’t pass judgments on the government on the basis of general impressions about it, but on the basis of the results that it achieves.”
„ A palpable result is before you and that won’t be the only palpable result achieved in the course of this calendar year, since Corridor 10 is the government’s top-priority. The government is not only going to complete 40 to 50 kilometers of the highway this year, but it will also get ready for working on and completing at least that many kilometers of the highway next year”, Mr. Cvetkovic said.
Eight bridges and flyovers, as well as a loop near Presevo, were constructed on the Presevo-Levosoj highway section. 90,000 tons of asphalt and 10,000 cubic meters of soil and stone were used to complete this specific highway section.
Apart from Prime Minister Cvetkovic, at the opening of the highway section were ministers Milan Markovic, Ivica Dacic, Slobodan Milosavljevic, Svetozar Ciplic, Verica Kalanovic , Petar Skundric, Milutin Mrkonjic, Jovan Krkobabic and Sulejman Ugljanin, as well as Mayors of Presevo, Vladicin Han, Trgoviste and Vranje.
Thereupon, they visited the Presevo border – crossing, the reconstruction of which funds the European Commission with five million euros.
After many years, the festive event was also attended by representatives of Albanians from South Serbia.
