SCHOOLS IN SERBIA INTRODUCE E-DAIRIES ON SEPTEMBER 1

24. August 2017.

Belgrade - Schools in Serbia are going to introduce e-dairies on September 1, by which records on students will be kept. Once the pilot project catches on throughout the country, paper diaries will become history.

The e-education project will be introduced in 200 of the 1,800 schools in Serbia in the fall. The aim of the project is to provide national education electronic services that advance and improve the digital maturity of schools, which is a prerequisite for a successful digital transformation of the education for the 21st century. By using electronic services, it should be easier for teachers to organize and teach classes, since they will be able to devote more time to students.

The electronic diary will make it possible for teachers, homeroom teachers and principals to keep records on students in a fast, easy and reliable manner. It completely replaces the current paper dairy and provides getting a timely insight into information. It reduces the possibility of error and subjectivity in the evaluation of students and provides a complete insight into student progress, as well as into the work of teachers and schools.

In order to ensure greater objectivity in the assessment of students, teachers can only see the grades for the subjects they teach. In addition, the e-diary saves the time required for recording by as much as a quarter compared to the time required to record in a paper diary, education experts at the Government of the Republic of Serbia said.

Parents will be able to access data in the e-dairy only on their children at any time. The e-dairy compiles reports on each child once a day and only the child’s parents will be able to access them by using the appropriate password. Also, the service has a system of notifying parents about their children’s grades and absences from school and such notifications will be e-mailed to them  once a day.  When the system becomes fully operational, text messages containing information about grades, truancy, praises and notes will be sent to parents once a day.  There is also an application that allows students to go through their grades, notes, records on their  absences from school, school reading lists and written tests schedules that were entered by their teachers.
