RUSSIA PROVIDED NEW FIRE EXTINGUISHING TRUCKS TO SERBIA

18. September 2015.

Nis – Yesterday, Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic and his associates took over, at the seat of the Serbian-Russian Humanitarian Center (SRHC) in Nis, the keys of five new trucks for fire extinguishing, which Russia had provided to Serbia.

One vehicle will immediately be sent to Presevo, and one in Kanjiža, where refugees are staying, it was stated on the occasion of receiving the keys, while the remaining three vehicles will be sent to the national parks.

Expressing his thanks for the donation, Minister Stefanovic said that that was just another step in mutual cooperation, which would be further developed through new models.

He mentioned favorably the assistance that the Centre had provided with the previous years’ fires  and last year’s floods, when members of the SRHC were the first that rushed to help up, as well as that that the Centre had helped with taking care of refugees by sending tents, blankets and generators.

Aleksandar Cepurin, the Russian Ambassador to Serbia, said that that was a symbolic gesture, but that it was honest and direct, and that aid would be directed to the areas with refugees. He wished that there were as few fires as possible in Serbia, and as many fire extinguishing trucks as possible.

The Head of the Sector for Emergency Situations, Predrag Maric, thanked for the donation, which he said was immeasurable, adding that the vehicles were just what the Sector needed.

The value of the five fire extinguishing trucks is about three million dollars, while the value of four modules for extinguishing fire in inaccessible places is about 80,000 dollars.
