RESTORATION OF THE BRIDGE IN MEDVEDJA ON HOLD

12. November 2015.

Medvedja – Problems with the old railroad bridge in Medvedja emerged only a year after its reconstruction. Because of the holes that appeared on it a week ago, buses don’t cross over it any more, while passengers cross it on foot and have to change busses twice.

Passengers have to walk for around 300 meters from the cultural center, which is located in the center of Medvedja, in order to  take another bus, because there is no closer traffic loop.  Although the official ban hasn’t been introduced, busses, due to security reasons, haven’t been crossing over the bridge, which connects the Krusevac municipality with the Trstenik municipality and Levacki region, since the holes appeared on it.

In less than a year, bus traffic across the bridge in Medvedja has been cancelled for the second time because the reconstruction, which was done around a year ago, hasn’t brought a lasting solution.

Goran Petrovic, the Technical Director of the Directorate for Planning and Construction in Trstenik, said that the bridge in Medvedja was the third most important bridge in the municipality, and since it was located on the state road of second order, the Public Enterprise of "Roads of Serbia" was responsible for taking care of it.

“According to some estimates, 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles cross over it per day, which is much more than what was planned when the bridge was put up.  The crack that appeared in it will soon be repaired, but the problems will reemerge with first frosts and snow.  The bridge is simply old and it is necessary to build a new, "says Mr. Petrovic.

The PE "Roads of Serbia", which is responsible for the bridge, hasn’t yet provided the answer to when Medvedja will get the promised concrete bridge, nor to the question of how it is possible that the traffic sign, which was put up a year ago, prohibits  the vehicles weighing more than 3. 5 tons to cross over the bridge, and yet allows 11 ton - heavy buses to do so.
