RECEPTION CENTER FOR MIGRANTS IN BUJANOVAC CLOSED

25. June 2020.

Bujanovac - There have been no users in the Reception Center for Migrants in the former "Svetlost" plant in Bujanovac since last week, officially - due to the renovation, which can take several months.

According to the Commissariat for Refugees (KIRS), the camp has not been closed, but it will not receive migrants in the coming period, so that the facility could be renovated "due to the large number of users who passed through the Reception Center during the pandemic."

However, according to the information obtained from other sources, the deadline for the return of migrants or the reopening of the camp is very questionable.

Those who stayed in the camp, about thirty of them, were transferred to the Reception Center in Presevo last week, the KIRS said

At the end of 2019, the residents of several surrounding villages demanded from the local police to be more engaged in securing the locals and their property from migrants, warning that they would, otherwise, organize guards in the villages where they lived.

After one incident, which could have escalated into a conflict between the locals and migrants, the Deputy Mayor of Bujanovac, Stojanca Arsic, said that he would ask for greater control over the movement of people accommodated in the Reception Center in Bujanovac.
