PROVISION OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE IN PCINJ DISTRICT COMPLETED

20. September 2016.

Belgrade, Bujanovac – During their joint engagement at eight locations in Pcinj District, medical teams of the Ministry of Defense, the Army of Serbia and the Ohio National Guards of the US Armed Forces examined nearly 2,000 patients and carried out a total of 3,364 medical examinations, it was concluded at a final meeting held at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade.

“The busiest wards included those of triage, ophthalmology and internal medicine. Based on the medical examinations provided, it could be concluded that the main problem was the patients’ low level of healthcare culture, as well as of their personal and dental healthcare. The largest number of them suffered from chronic diseases but weren’t taking any medicines. The patients’ difficult access to medical services in this region resulted in half of them never having had an ophthalmologic examination, while a large number of orthopedic patients reported with undiagnosed and untreated articulations injuries to major joints, "said the commander of the undertaken activities Lt. Col. Dr. Aleksandar Radunovic.

The joint medical engagement of the Ministry of Defense, the Army of Serbia and the Ohio National Guards lasted from September 6 to 14 of this year.

As part of the humanitarian assistance provided by the mixed medical teams, free medical examinations of the residents of Cerevajka and Reljan in the municipality of Presevo were conducted, as well as of those of Muhovac, Lucane, Klenika and Letovice in the municipality of Bujanovac, and of those of the villages of Vlase and Vrtogos, which are situated in the area of the city of Vranje.

31 members of the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Serbia, 25 members of the Ohio National Guards and three representatives of the Armed Forces of Angola, in the capacity of observers, took part in the said joint activities.
