PRIVATE SECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IN SOUTH SERBIA

30. May 2013.

Vranje – The implementation of the project "Private Sector Development in South Serbia" began in September 2011 and it will be running until October 2014. The project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC and it is implemented by the Regional Agency for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship VEEDA d.o.o, which is the Swiss Agency’s partner in this project.  The total value of the project is 1, 800,000.00 CHF. The project includes the Pcinj and Jablanica Districts or the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac, Surdulica, Targoviste, Vranje and Leskovac.

The aim of the project is to stimulate the systemic changes in key sectors, thereby contributing to the reduction of unemployment and poverty, the increase of income and the improvement in the overall quality of people’s life in this region. During the initial phase of the project, three sectors were identified, which are the wood industry, forest products and tourism and which would be the generators of income and employment in the Pčinj and Jablanica Districts.

The project is in the implementation phase, during which interventions will be carried out in two selected sectors – in the timber industry and in the field of forest products. The implementation of the interventions will be followed by making systemic changes, including improving access to business services, increasing the products’ added value and encouraging cooperation among enterprises or the public-private partnerships.

Partners in this project are the municipalities, chambers of commerce, business associations, companies, public organizations etc.
