PRIME MINISTER VUCIC OPENED THE RAILWAY LINE NEAR LESKOVAC

26. April 2017.

Leskovac - More than 45 km of the railway line on the section from Nis to Presevo was reconstructed and now, as it was said in Leskovac, the train drivers, instead of 50 km/hour, will be able to drive trains at 120 km/ hour. The launching of the reconstructed rail line was attended by the Prime Minister and future President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic.

The reconstruction of the railway on Corridor 10 was done in several stages, while the final Vinarce Djordjevo stage was completed a few days ago, ahead of the schedule.

Works on the reconstruction of several railway sections in South Serbia started in 2016, while a slightly more than 30 million US dollars were allocated for their reconstruction.  All works were performed by the Russian state railway company.

As part of the project, 11 road crossings were reconstructed, four of which are in the city of Leskovac, while 400,000 US dollars were spent only on fixing them up.

As stated in Leskovac, this is the first reconstruction of the railway line from Nis to Presevo since the 1960’s.
