PRESEVO MATERNITY WARD STARTED OPERATING

15. July 2015.

Presevo – Mitat Sahiti, the Director of the Health Center in Presevo, said that the outpatient maternity ward, which was built in the reconstructed part of the Health Center in that city, had begun operating and that, after hiring ten nurses-obstetricians, it was ready to receive the first women in labor.

Mr. Sahiti said that three doctors would take care of women in labor at the Presevo outpatient maternity ward, as well as that the maternity ward, which had 12 beds, would be open 24 hours per day.

“If required, two colleagues from Vranje maternity ward will come too.  The outpatient maternity ward in Presevo is fitted out with everything that is envisaged by the Law on Outpatient Maternity Wards," said Mr. Sahiti.

Mr. Sahiti said that the beginning of operation of the outpatient maternity ward was of great importance for the municipality of Presevo, because until then, the women from the municipality had given birth in Vranje, which was 45 km away from Presevo, and that 380 to 420 delivers per annum were expected in Presevo.

The outpatient maternity ward in Presevo was built in the reconstructed part of the Health Center, which the Ministry of Health, the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja and the local self-government financed with about 1.5 million euros, while the European Union and the Government of Switzerland funded the purchase of the equipment for the maternity ward with 250, 000 euros.

The maternity ward in Presevo was formally opened in January 2014, but started operating a year and a half after the opening ceremony, primarily due to the problems with providing the personnel that includes nurses – obstetricians and doctors who would work there.
