POST OFFICE OPENED IN PRESEVO

4. March 2016.

Presevo – As part of the “52 Post Offices in 52 Weeks” activity, a new post office of the Post of Serbia, the tenth in a row, was opened yesterday at the “Train Station” neighborhood in Presevo. As stated at the opening ceremony, the Post of Serbia, in this way, promotes the economic, demographic and economic progress of small communities, and contributes to a faster and more balanced regional development.

Milan Krkobabic, Director General of the Post of Serbia, who handed over the new post office to the citizens for usage, said that it was justifiable from an economic viewpoint, because it was located in the area where there were over 3,200 residents,  many small businessmen and where the largest reception center for migrants was located .

“We expect that the post office will be very profitable.  At the same time, the Post of Serbia, proves to be a socially responsible corporation that is ready to develop every part of Serbia, thereby proving that every person in this country is equally worthy of attention. This branch post office and all the services that will be provided at it, including exchange operations, will considerably facilitate the life and movement of the residents of Presevo and the refugees that have arrived. Our goal is to reach out to each other and to live in harmony, "said Mr. Krkobabic.

Skender Limani, President of the “Train Station” local community, who signed the request for the opening of the new post office thanked the Post of Serbia on behalf of the residents of Presevo.

“This is an important moment for us because almost all the banks went away from Presevo.  The municipality's main post office has become too small for the 45,000 residents, especially during the disbursement of pensions and other benefits.  I ‘m convinced that after the opening of the new post office, the citizens will understand the situation differently and will be served quickly, in a top-quality fashion and on time. Also, at the time when there are no jobs, two working places are very important for the young generation, "said Mr. Limani said. He also stated that he hoped the provided assistance would improve the life in that environment.

The new post office will facilitate the daily life of members of different ethnic communities – the Serbian, Albanian and Roma. Over 3,200 residents or members of 600 households of the “Train Station” local community, as well as of the gravitating villages of the Trnavska River, Cakanovac and Cukarka, will be able to do many different chores at one spot - to send and receive letters and packages, pay their bills and draw their pensions or social security benefits. Also, the Post of Serbia provides to the local residents a free Internet corner, while postal workers will conduct a free Internet training. The premises of the branch post office were given for free by the Association of Pensioners of the “Train Statin” local community, while maintenance men of the Post of Serbia fixed up and equipped them for a short time, so that top-quality and the cheapest postal and financial services, which are in accordance with the customers’ needs, could be provided there.

The best evidence that the Post of Serbia, although a large system, responds and adapts quickly to its customers, is the fact that a specialized counter for postal services was opened at the largest reception center for migrants in Presevo at the end of the last year, where migrants can exchange their foreign currency or draw the money that their relatives send them via Western Union, but also buy prepaid phone cards and the like. In that manner, the problems of those people, who are on their arduous path to a new life and who are fleeing from war and poverty, are at least partially mitigated.
