The “Peca and a Wolf” play, which is performed by a wind brass quintet of the Belgrade philharmonic orchestra, as well as by an actor/narrator, is going to be shown at 10 am on June 11, 2009, at the community center in Bujanovac and at 4 pm on the same date at the community center in Medvedja.

“Peca and a Wolf” is a musical fairytale that acquainted generations of children with the world of classical music. The music and the text of the fairytale were written by the Russian composer Sergej Prokofjev.  Mr. Prokofjev wrote this piece with the aim of developing children’s taste in music from their childhood days. The composition, which was written in only four days, was first performed in 1936. It is the most popular and the most frequently performed piece of this composer.

The special arrangement of this classical fairytale acquaints children with wind instruments through the use of the flute, the hautboy, the clarinet, the faggot and the horn. Each instrument from the quintet represents one of the characters from the fairytale, such as Peca, the bird, the cat, the grandfather, the duck, the wolf and hunters. Various possibilities of each instrument are emphasized, whereas the quintet demonstrates not only how these instruments sound together, but also what makes each of them unique.

The performance lasts 50 minutes, while the target audience includes elementary school children and families.

The wind quintet of the Belgrade philharmonic orchestra was founded by five eminent soloists, members of the wind orchestra, in 2005. This group of young and energetic musicians has been developing various quintet repertoires for the audience throughout the region since then. The inventive programs that this quintet offers are aimed at taking the listeners for a journey through history and music.

During the last year, the wind quintet of the Belgrade philharmonic orchestra took part in several music festivals, as well as in the International Gathering of Composers in Belgrade. It also had numerous concerts and held training courses in the region. The quintet also gave a performance in Paris, where it participated in the celebration of the International Day of Music.
