PEOPLE’S PARLIAMENT: “THE STRAIGHTENING OF THE WINDING DRINA RIVER” IN SOUTH SERBIA

12. February 2013.

Leskovac – The People's Parliament implements a three-year project in South Serbia called “The Straightening of the Winding Drina River”, which aims to provide assistance in overcoming administrative and bureaucratic obstacles to  the citizens of 13 municipalities in the Jablanica and Pcinj districts.

“By this project, we want to motivate the people to stand strongly in defense of their own and their fellow citizens’ rights, and to influence the performers of public functions to do their work, as much as possible, in line with the generally accepted principles of good governance," said Goran Mitrovic, the Head of this NGO.

The People's Parliament will, actually, engage lawyers in Vranje and Leskovac, who will provide free advice and practical legal assistance to the citizens. During this month, the NGO’s telephone numbers will be available, and as of mid-March, assistance may be sought through the www. netrpimnepravdu. rs wbsite.

“Our experience shows that many people don’t know what their rights regarding the institutions of the system are, or whom to address and in what manner in order to achieve them. That is why we believe that free legal assistance, provided as part of this project, will be very beneficial to them”, said Mr. Mitrovic.
