PE “SERBIAN FORESTS“ UNDERTAKES THE REFORESTATION OF MEDVEDJA ACTIVITY

Medvedja –  Afforestation was carried out in the municipality of Medvedja, which is part of the project "One Tree for One Soldier.” The Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia is in charge of implementing the project.

Medvedja’s unit dealing with forests, in cooperation with the Leskovac forestry, organized a reforestation campaign that was carried out by prisoners of the institution for the execution of prison sentences from Leskovac.

The PE “Serbian Forests” included the municipality of Medvedja in the noble mission of the reforestation of many bare areas. The project, through community reforestation work, aims to preserve the memory of a part of the tradition of the Serbian people, and supports the improved treatment and re-socialization of convicts, "said Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja.

Around three acres of forest were afforested in the municipality of Medvedja, while according to the plan of the project "One Tree for One Soldier", 1.3 million trees, or one tree for each killed patriot, will be planted in Serbia from 2014 until the end of 2018. Apart from the reforestation of Serbia, the project aims to rescue from oblivion the heroism and patriotism of Serbian soldiers killed in the Great War of 1914 to 1918.
