"ONE STEP FORWARD - ONE STEP CLOSER" PROJECT

Vranje – The "Nexus" NGO, in cooperation with the partner "Ofer" NGO from Bujanovac, launched the first phase of the project "One Step Forward - One Step Closer" by organizing educational workshops for the use of the "Forum" theater in Vrnjacka Spa.

The project is supported by the government’s Office for Human and Minority Rights and it is part of the call for applications for projects of associations of citizens aimed at improving the position and status of Roma in the Republic of Serbia.

The aim of the project is to encourage the functioning of the society towards the Roma through the establishment of dialogue and cooperation among different social players at the local level.

The workshops are organized for the most important stakeholders in the educational process, such as teachers, teaching assistants, Roma civil society organizations, who will share their knowledge and skills by using techniques of the "Forum" theater in working with students in schools in Pcinj district, with the aim of developing awareness of students and the wider community about the importance of respecting diversity.

These activities will increase the capacity of key stakeholders in the educational process of young people as agents of change in the local community and will strengthen coordination between the relevant stakeholders in local self-governments regarding the prevention of discrimination and improvement of the position of the Roma minority.

The joint activities of all the stakeholders in the "Forum" performances are aimed at drawing the attention of parents, students, the most responsible persons of the educational process and the general public to the position of Roma and at making some room for dialogue, which will encourage the building of a more tolerant society towards diversity and the understanding of different assessment of values.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Office for Human and Minority Rights and the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
