Agreement on Multiethnic Government in Bujanovac Reached after Two Years

BUJANOVAC – Upon two years of negotiations, the Bujanovac Serbs and Albanians finally reached an agreement on establishing the multiethnic government.

The Serbs and political parties that are to represent them in the future governing coalition in Bujanovac got the following positions: Assistant President of the Municipality, Deputy President of the Municipal Assembly, three Heads of Departments, four members of the Municipal Council, Deputy Head of the Health Center, Directors of the Bujanovac Library and Pharmacy, as well as the majority of seats in the Managing Boards, which will be headed by them.

„We offered them two more managerial positions in public companies, because we want to establish the multiethnic government as soon as possible. In that way, it will be easier for Bujanovac to apply for the projects”, said Jonuz Musliu, President of the Bujanovac Municipal Assembly.

The open way to the EU Pre-Accession Assistance, the adoption of next year’s budget and, which is most important, a more balanced way of spending the funds, were the motives for both sides to accept what had been offered to them.

It is expected that the agreement should be signed next week. It is going to be a transitional agreement, since they failed to agree on “what would be a genuine multiethnic government at the moment”.

The governing coalition will include deputies of the Democratic Party and those of the Group of Citizens “Stojanca Arsic and Miodrag Milkovic”, with the total of six deputies, as well as three Albanian Parties, which include the Party  for Democratic Action, the Movement for Democratic Progress and the Democratic Union of the Albanians, with the total of 21 representatives. The opposition will still have 14 deputies, those from the Socialist Party of Serbia, the Democratic Party of Serbia and the Serbian Radical Party.
