NUMBER OF REFUGEES IN SOUTH SERBIA ISN’T DECREASING

21. September 2015.

Presevo – According to the data of the Red Cross Office in Presevo, over the last two days, the influx of migrants from the direction of Greece, through Macedonia, into the southern Serbian municipality "was regular and varied between 1, 500 and two thousand men, women and children”.

“All of them have been provided with food, water and essential medical care, since exhausted people keep arriving.  The most difficult situation is the one related to women and  children, of which several women gave birth during their several weeks’ long travelling,“ the  above-mentioned humanitarian organization said.

The estimates show that the number of migrants arriving in Presevo didn’t decrease since Hungary had closed its border with Serbia, and that the continuous inflow of migrants could be expected in the coming days, depending on how the Turkish authorities allow groups of migrants to enter Greece.

For the time being, there is enough food and water in the two reception centers in the municipality, which mobile teams of the Commissioner for Refugees, the UNHCR and the Red Cross care for.   The delivery of warmer clothing and footwear is expected.
