NEW SOLUTIONS IN THE FIELD OF FAMILY PENSIONS

28. April 2015.

Belgrade - Changes in the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, which are effective as of this year, brought new solutions in the field of family pensions. Widows or widowers, who at the time of death of their spouses are younger than 45, won’t be able to count on family pensions any longer.

By amendments to the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, which entered into force at the beginning of the year, the spouses can no longer count on automatic gaining of family pensions, since the new and stricter retirement requirements don’t allow this.

Under the applicable regulations, a widow, at this moment, meets the requirement for a family pension upon reaching the age of 52, but only if she wasn’t less than 45 years old at the time of the death of her spouse, the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund says. In 2016, they will be entitled to get family pension at the age of 52 years and six months, and at the age of 53 in 2017.
