8. March 2017.

Bujar Nisani, the President of Albania, paid a visit to Bujanovac and Presevo, while he came to Serbia at the invitation of Saip Kamberi, the Mayor of Bujanovac. The President of Albania was, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, met at the Konculj administrative line crossing, which is situated near Bujanovac, by Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. At the Bujanovac municipal building, on which the flags of Serbia, Albania and the European Union were flying, Bujar Nisani, in separate meetings, talked with Saip Kamberi, the Mayor of Bujanovac, Jonuz Musliu, the President of the Albanian National Council, MP Fatmir Hasani, the representatives of the Serbian and Albanian political leaders from the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja and with Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

The talks were followed by a press conference at which the Albanian President Nisani said that Albania was interested in strengthening cooperation with Serbia, which, as he pointed out, had been confirmed at the meetings of the two Prime Ministers.

“We want to assist the Albanians living in this part of Serbia with exercising their rights to education, economic development and national symbols. We have to build the future on mutual respect and appreciation, and not on hatred and intolerance, "President Nisani said.

Saip Kamberi, the Mayor of Bujanovac, said that he had talked with the Albanian President about the possibility for the Albanian institutions to directly invest in cultural, educational and other projects, which would improve the position of Albanians in that region.

Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, said that the Republic of Serbia was pushing for national minorities in our country to have all the rights stipulated in international conventions, as well as those stipulated in the Constitution and the laws of our country, and added that we were constantly working on that.  He underscored that the visit of the Albanian President did not in any way affect the raising of tensions in Bujanovac and Presevo and stressed that everything had passed peacefully and smoothly.

Upon the meetings held at the municipal building, the Albanian President visited an elementary school in Veliki Trnovac, where he attended a ceremony, while he ended his visit with a meeting with the residents of Presevo.
