MR. STANKOVIC: THE ANNEXATION OF THE MUNICIPALITIES OF PRESEVO, BUJANOVAC AND MEDVEDJA TO KOSOVO AND METOHIJA WILL NOT BE THE TOPIC IN BRUSSELS

Belgrade – "The annexation of the three municipalities, those of Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja, to Kosovo and Metohija will not be a topic discussed in Brussels", said Zoran Stankovic, President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the said three municipalities.

Mr. Stanković said in an interview for the N1 television that it had been confirmed in talks with international representatives and added that one of the problems of the Albanian minority were textbooks, but that the responsibility for it did not lay on the Serbian authorities.

"In the most recent talks that we have had, they said that there would be no exchange of territories, because that wouldn launch an avalanche and not only in the Balkanus.Those are the positions on the matter of the countries that decide and that have a prevailing influence in the UN," Mr. Stankovic said.

As he noted, all the parties that supported the annexation of the three municipalities to Kosovo and Metohija had lost in the elections and were losing the trust of the population in that part of Serbia.

Ahead of the latest round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, the Assembly of Albanian deputies from the three municipalities in South Serbia adopted the "Political Declaration", by which they requested from the interim Kosovo institutions and the authorities in Belgrade to include, as they say, the political status of the Albanians from Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja in the dialogue on normalization of relations. According to N1, they want to have the same rights as the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija have.

Mr. Stankovic pointed out that that activity had been undertaken for political purposes, especially considering the forthcoming elections for national minority councils.
