Medvedja - Marko Djuric, Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, visited the municipality of Medvedja and announced that the Government would seek to create a political climate that would enable people to live well, to take advantage of the opportunities that had not been sufficiently used, such as linking with the municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija.

“There is no recovery of South Serbia without the recovery of towns such as Medvedja, which is, along with other municipalities in South Serbia, of strategic importance because of its location, ethnic structure and economic potential, "Mr. Djuric said after a meeting with Nebojsa Arsic,  the Mayor of Medvedja.

"The obligation of the Government," Mr. Djuric said, "is to provide economic opportunities to the citizens of all nationalities, to create a political climate that will enable people to live well here and seize the opportunities that have not been sufficiently used so far."

“That is the possibility of connecting with our municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija and strengthening the ties between the municipality of Medvedja and other municipalities in the southern part of central Serbia with municipalities in Kosovo and Metohija, because I think they have a lot to learn from each other in economic and political terms, which they can do together "Mr. Djuric said.

According to him, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, as part of the Government, cares about the Serbian municipalities in Kosovo and Metoihija and it offered its cooperation to representatives of the municipality of Medvedja, because it knows how great and vital the strategic importance of that municipality for the Serbian people in that area was.

Mr. Djuric said that he had only talked with representatives of the municipality of Medvedja, primarily about the development of the municipality, and that the talks had not focused on inter-ethnic relations.

Nebojsa Arsic, the Mayor of Medvedja, said that each visit of representatives of the Government of Serbia meant a lot to the municipality because of its underdevelopment and geographical location.

“We are a multi-ethnic community, which has, so far, invested a lot in good neighborly relations and we are very satisfied with it and are working on it. We will try to put our cooperation, especially with the municipalities in northern Kosovo and Metohija, at a much higher level, given that we have Sijarinska Spa, which has a great tourist potential, so that our people could be medically treated and rehabilitated there, "Mr. Arsic said.
