MINISTRY OF INTERIOR: THE MONUMENT TO THE KILLED POLICE OFFICERS IN THE CHURCH IN BUJANOVAC SPA

10. July 2015.

Belgrade - The Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia informs the public that the decision to move the monument to members of the Serbian police who were killed during the armed conflict from 2000 to 2002, from the place called Grope to the yard of St. John’s church in Bujanovac Spa, was made for several justifiable reasons, which are economic, security and practical ones.

“The Ministry points out that the police still proudly remember and don’t forget its members who gave their lives defending the country and its citizens. By relocating the monument, the Ministry intends to enable the families of the killed police officers, like everyone else, to easily and simply approach the monument at any time.  Due to the fact that the monument was put up in a remote place and that there were some security risks, the families of the killed policemen weren’t able to visit it and pay respects to their loved ones for 12 years.  The St. John Church is located in Bujanovac Spa near the highway, which will make it much easier for the families and other people to reach the monument. Also, one of the reasons for the relocation of the monument were enormous costs of securing it, considering that, due to security reasons, 27 members of the gendarmerie, in three shifts, took care of it on a daily basis, which cost Serbia around 550,000 euros per annum.  Relocation of the monument will cost 300, 000 dinars and there won’t be any additional costs for taking care of it, "it was said in the statement of the Serbian Ministry of Interior.
