MINISTRY OF DEFENSE ISSUED A CALL FOR BEING ENTERED INTO MILITARY RECORDS

18. January 2017.

Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja - The Ministry of Defense issued a general call for entering into military records the Serbian citizens who will be 18 this year.  This legal obligation should also be fulfilled by those who for some reason have not yet been entered into military records, so that they will have to contact the Ministry of Defense’s centers in their cities and municipalities.

This May, the Military of Defense’s centers will begin sending notifications to all those who have not yet responded to the call.

As of 2011, when military service started being done on a voluntary basis, between 1,200 and 2,400 young men and women per year undergo military training. While doing military service was mandatory, up to 20,000 young men a year passed military training. As the geopolitical situation in the world has become more complicated, along with the migrant crisis and the increasing intolerance and tensions in the Western Balkans, the voices supporting the re-introduction of military service are becoming increasingly louder.

The Ministry pointed out that it, along with the Army of Serbia, continuously monitored developments and security situation in the region and the world. They say that they are considering the reintroduction of compulsory military service, which is, at the proposal of the Ministry, to be decided by the Assembly of Serbia.
